Consultative Services for Executive Leadership
Our schools are community institutions that operate as independent non-profit organizations. Funding comes from tuitions, community funds such as UJA, private foundations and fundraising dollars as well as grants. In some locations government funding is available in one form or another. As such, in order for a school to service its community effectively, its professional leadership needs to have responsibilities in non-educational matters in conjunction with a lay board. A school of excellence usually operates with a strong Head of School who oversees all aspects of organizational operations and a strong Board of Trustees whose primary role is to be future-focused and strategic.
The National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) has produced the “Trustee Handbook” now in its ninth edition. It is an indispensable tool for professional and lay leaders of independent schools.
I am available to guide school leadership in understanding the role of Head of School in his/her relationship with professional staff and lay leaders, the Board of Trustees in their role within the organization and the need to develop important documents such as Mission Statements, Vision Statements, Core Values and Educational Philosophies.
