אמר אל הכהנים בני אהרן ואמרת אליהם
The Parsha opens with a powerful chinuch message. Rashi quotes the גמרא in יבמות that explains that the double command in the pasuk, אמר ואמרת, teaches us that not only are the adults being warned to be careful from טומאה but also the parents are required to concern themselves for their children to maintain their purity and train them to guard themselves.
הרב הגאון משה פיינשטיין זצוק״ל asked, why does the extra word refer to chinuch of the children, maybe it’s a double language for the sake of the adults? הרב משה learns that the double language is in fact directed to the adults and because it is, it comes to promote chinuch of the children. Often we find in the Torah that when a word is repeated and it’s not for the purposes of a drosha, it can connote חביבות. An example would be when HaShem called to Avraham , אברהם אברהם, saying his name twice. We are told that it shows great love for him. So to here, הרב משה learns that one אמר expresses the commandment and the other one expresses that the commandment be carried out with חביבות. By the adults fulfilling the mitzvah in an endearing way, the children will be inspired to follow suit.
הרב משה is applying his famous outlook towards Mitzvah observance and the chinuch of children. Even the greatest צדיק who is meticulous in his observance runs the risk of misguiding the youth around him if he expresses any hardship to fulfilling a mitzvah. Children are likely to feel that only a צדיק or only their father who is strong can pass such a test. The children don’t stand a chance and give up without trying. הרב משה is telling us that the essential approach to חינוך is השפעה- to influence for the positive or the negative.
